Poetry Hickory January Reminder

Just a quick reminder that January’s Poetry Hickory will be this Tuesday (1/18) at Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse.  Writers’ Night Out will begin at 5:00, followed by the Open Mic, featuring Lincolnton poets Shane Manier, Morgan DePue, and Devona Wyant, at 6:30, and our Featured Writers, Nancy Posey, Tim Peeler and Ted Pope.

Posey is the winner of the 2009 Poetic Asides Chapbook Competition and an instructor at Caldwell Community College.  Tim Peeler, an instructor at Catawba Valley Community College and author of a dozen books, and Ted Pope, two-time winner of the NC Poetry Slam, have collaborated on a book called Waiting for Charlie Brown, due out later this year from Rank Stranger Press.

And if you missed our last visit from the Lincolnton trio, you should know that it was probably our most popular Open Mic in three years.

And don’t forget that the art for this year’s Aroma of Art to benefit ALFA, CCM, and the Council on Adolescence, will be hung by February 3 (the festive Kick-Off is that night).  Please come take a look, make a bid, and submit a poem to Scott Owens at asowens1@yahoo.com by February 15 for a chance to have that poem displayed with the art.  All displayed poems will be given to the winner of the work of art at the Grand Finale (March 3), and at least 3 poems will be chosen to be read aloud that night.

As always, Poetry Hickory is free, open to the public, and sponsored by Main Street Rag Publishing Company. Email Scott Owens or call him at 828-234-4266 if you have questions.
